To celebrate its 126th anniversary, Berkel has renewed its iconic B114 masterpiece, a symbol of mechanical excellence and tradition: the B114X flywheel, a perfect fusion of the art of cutting and modern aesthetics.
The collaboration with Rizoma, visionary interpreters of aluminium design and shaping, has revolutionised the B114 slicer by reinterpreting it with a focus on innovation and minimalism. With its essential design and clean lines, the B114X is designed for an audience that seeks functional beauty and a style that fits in with modern times.
The symbol of the B114X is unquestionably its flywheel: completely redesigned, it abandons the floral style for a minimalist approach. Made of aluminium with a steel core, the flywheel maintains the perfect traction that distinguishes Berkel slicers, balancing weight and volume with advanced aesthetic research. Its radial machining, shaded towards the centre, enhances the unique texture created by the machining process itself, giving it an essential and refined look.
THE STAND
The B114X is sold together with a stand, which has also been redesigned to perfectly complement the contemporary design of the mechanism. The ring, turned from a solid block of aluminium, eliminates the traditional stand feet and recalls the circularity of the flywheel. This stylistic choice offers a unique visual balance, making the slicer a design object capable of enriching any space.
ENGRAVINGS
The engravings are the result of meticulous machining. Essentiality is also present in the decorations: the Berkel logos, the inscription “Milano” and the name of the slicer are carved with precision using milling technology, which creates a veiled effect that lends refinement.
COLOURING
White, inspired by the automotive industry, was chosen to enhance the pure, modern lines of the B114X. Together with the chrome details, the colour contributes to its sophisticated, contemporary look, perfect for minimalist design environments. Each colour choice is designed to enhance the intrinsic beauty of the product, while maintaining a neutral yet elegant aesthetic.
THE CREATIVE PROPOSAL
The company’s partnership with Rizoma has resulted in a unique Berkel product, where mechanical excellence meets design innovation. Rizoma has helped revolutionise the look of the B114X, while keeping its functional perfection intact. Every component has been accurately studied, and the texture of the workmanship is not just an aesthetic detail but a distinctive signature that makes it inimitable. The name of the machine is recalled in the pad-printed wording on the back of the flywheel, “Rizoma X Berkel”, to seal the partnership. Thanks to Berkel’s know-how and Rizoma’s experience in industrial design, the B114X has reached new levels of minimalism, respecting the values of the brand and creating an aesthetic proposition outside of the traditional box. The creative idea behind the B114X is to “empty out” the superfluous, to reduce design to what is essential, in line with the “less is more” philosophy. Every detail has been carefully studied, from the aluminium flywheel to the gloss obtained from the paintwork, to create a product that not only enhances functionality but also aesthetic beauty.
